Is it just me, or is everything around me slowing down?

Ah yes, we're in summer! The longer days, the warmth, the general ease of everything makes the world feel like it's moving in slow motion.

But just because everything outside is slowing down doesn't mean my mind is. Can you relate?? I’m still trying to push things forward, but little is happening. My mind's going, "WTF? I need to get moving! Come on, people, wake up! Let's go!"

And then I wonder, maybe it's actually good to slow down with everyone else. There's something almost magical that happens when we slow down. We start to notice things we ignored before. A person, a thought, a bug on the grass…

I remember this one time during my Vipassana silent retreat. With nothing else to do, I found myself utterly mesmerised by the sight of morning dew, along with a group of big men and strong women co-retreaters. We stared at it for 20 minutes straight because, well, what else did we have to do? And in that stillness, it was breathtaking.

So, yeah, maybe slowing down isn't so bad.

Enjoy the slower pace.

The world will get back to its usual, crazy speed sooner than we think. For now, let's just be present and see what we've been missing.
